Beginning the Application Process
The application process for most Ontario nursing graduates begins when your nursing school informs us that you are about to complete your program.
After that, we will send you an email to advise you to create an account through the online portal.
Once you have created an account, you can begin your application by logging in and clicking on “create a new application.”
When creating your account in the online portal, make sure your personal information is correct and matches the name on the supporting documents you submit.
We will start assessing your application only after we receive it and the application fee. The application fee is non-refundable.
Once we receive and review your information, you will receive a message from us telling you what other information is needed to assess your application, for example, evidence to demonstrate you have met CNO’s other registration requirements.
NOTE:
- During your application, if you answer “yes” to any question on the declaration, you will need to provide additional information, including a personal statement and supporting documentation separately. These cannot be submitted online – you will be given instructions about how to submit the documents to CNO. Your information will be reviewed by CNO’s Registrar/Executive Director and may be referred to the Registration Committee, which will extend the time it takes to process your application.
- While you can submit your proof of authorization to work at any time during the online application process, we recommend you submit this documentation to us when you create your application.
- If your name changes, you need to send us a written request for a name change. Your request must include the following:
- your previous name
- a copy of a legal name change document, such as a marriage certificate, divorce decree, or change of name certificate
- your new name spelled exactly as it appears on your legal name change document
- your signature
- your mailing address and phone number
- Your application for registration is confidential. We will not share information about your application with anyone unless you give us written permission to release it to a third party, such as an employer, spouse, agency or lawyer. To authorize this, you can either send us a written and signed letter of permission or complete the Authorization to Release Information form.
Providing false or misleading information and/or documents in support of your application for registration may result in a refusal of your application for registration or the cancellation of any certificate that may have been issued.
