We have received your application for registration as a Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) in the General Class.
If you haven’t already done so, you will need to send the following documents to CNO:
- You will also need to request a Canadian Police Criminal Record Check online through Sterling Talent Solutions – this is the only criminal record check CNO will accept. CNO will no longer accept paper copies. For more information, visit our police criminal record checks page. Note: Your online criminal record check must include all of your current and former names. CNO considers a criminal record check valid for only six months after it is issued. Therefore, depending on when you submit it to CNO, it may expire during the application process and you will be required to submit a new one before becoming eligible for registration.
- Verification of Course Completion and Transcript Request directly from the school(s) where you completed your nursing education
If you have just graduated from an Ontario nursing program, you do not need to provide us with the above documents. Your school of nursing should provide us with confirmation of your program completion.
All applicants must successfully complete an online jurisprudence examination. Once you have submitted your online application and fee, you will receive information about how to access the secure testing site.
Check your application status
To check the status of your application and to see a list of your requirements, login to Maintain Your Membership, select “View Open Applications” and select your Emergency Class application. A registration requirement will be marked as “outstanding” either because information has not been received, or because CNO is still reviewing the information. Throughout the application process, we will send you messages in the online portal’s message centre. Please check the portal periodically.
Has your contact information changed?
If your mailing address, telephone number or email address has changed, please use the “update my personal information” feature in the online portal. However, if your name has changed, you must send a letter to CNO along with your official name-change document, such as a marriage certificate — in the letter, please indicate how you would like your new name to appear.
For more information, read the Emergency Class section on CNOs website.
