OHIP+ is changing. Here’s what you need to know
OHIP+ is changing to focus its benefits on children and youth without private drug plans. As of Monday, April 1, 2019, children and youth with a private plan will have their prescription medications covered through their private plans (as they did prior to the launch of OHIP+).
These changes will affect all children and youth aged 24 and under who are insured under the Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP).
Children and youth who do not have a private plan will remain eligible for the Ontario Drug Benefit through OHIP+ and will continue to receive full coverage of more than 4,400 prescription medications at no cost.
Individuals and families with significant out-of-pocket prescription drug costs, despite having a private plan, can apply for financial support through the Trillium Drug Program.
