CNO welcomes new ED & CEO, appoints Deputy Registrar

The Council of the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) is pleased to welcome Silvie Crawford as Executive Director (ED) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO). Silvie is a dynamic and collaborative leader who brings the right mix of experience and leadership, along with a keen understanding of regulation in the health care system, to this role.

To support key regulatory activities, Council’s Executive Committee met on September 1, 2022 to appoint Carol Timmings as Deputy Registrar, effective September 7, 2022. Carol takes on this role in addition to her position as CNO’s Chief Quality Officer. As Deputy Registrar Timmings will be key in supporting ongoing operations and ensuring continuity of regulatory processes while we onboard our new Registrar.

The Regulated Health Professions Act, 1991, which governs all 26 of Ontario’s health regulatory colleges including CNO, defines the ED as the Registrar. The Deputy Registrar will support the ED and CEO, and facilitate the timely processing of regulatory matters in the public interest, including registering nurses.

The needs of the health care system in Ontario have never been greater. This action will ensure CNO is positioned to address the regulatory priorities of today and tomorrow.

The Deputy Registrar appointment will be brought to CNO’s Council at its meeting on Thursday, September 28, 2022.
