CNO focuses on system-level solutions for registration

At the College of Nurses of Ontario, our purpose is to protect the public by promoting safe nursing practice. This includes registering nurses, whether educated in Ontario, elsewhere in Canada or internationally, who have the knowledge, skills and judgment to practice safely in Ontario.

We recognize this remains an extraordinary time for health care system and health care workers, in particular the Registered Practical Nurses, (RPNs), Registered Nurses (RNs) and Nurse Practitioners (NPs) registered with CNO.

That’s why we are resolute in our commitment to public protection and doing everything in our power to register nurses in Ontario. This includes continuing our collaborations with system partners and working with government to identify new opportunities and system solutions to respond to growing system demand.

In 2022 we have already registered a record number of nurses. We have also broken records for the number of internationally educated nurses (IENs) we are registering this year and are poised to break more. This is the result of strong collaboration and forging new ground with our valued partners such as Ontario Health, with whom we launched the Supervised Practice Education Partnership earlier this year.

We look forward to building on this success and meeting with the Ontario Government in the coming days to see how we can further our efforts.
