New scholarship for nurses' continuing education

In honour of Anne Coghlan’s long-time, exceptional leadership and contribution to nursing, a scholarship fund in her name was announced to continue her legacy of promoting safe nursing practice.

The announcement coincided with Coghlan’s recent retirement after a long and impactful career in nursing. Coghlan retired from her role as the College of Nurses of Ontario’s (CNO’s) Executive Director and CEO on March 31, 2022, after 22 years of service in the role.

“I am so honoured to have a scholarship in my name,” said Coghlan, when informed of this recognition. “I am delighted to know that nurses who contribute to quality nursing care by pursuing learning opportunities will be acknowledged with support for their ongoing learning.”

Established through the Registered Nurses’ Foundation of Ontario and funded by Coghlan’s family, friends and former colleagues, the Anne L. Coghlan Scholarship will be awarded to a nurse (RPN, RN or NP) registered with CNO who is pursuing further education and exemplifies our purpose to protect the public and promote safe nursing practice.

Recipients of the Anne L. Coghlan Scholarship must demonstrate integrity and accountability by upholding standards, committing to quality assurance and supporting innovation in patient safety and harm prevention. They also show a commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion in providing culturally safe and sensitive care.
