Address change (home and business)

How do I change my home or business mailing address?

To update your business and/or home address, click here to go to the Members' Area where you will find further instructions. The College is required to have your business address and make it available to the public. Having your current home address ensures that you will receive important College information.

Annual Payment Card

How do I replace a lost Annual Payment Card (APC)?

You can request a replacement card by calling Customer Service at 416 928-0900 or toll-free in Ontario at 1 800 387-5526, or by mailing in your request with the following information:

  1. First name
  2. Last name
  3. Ontario registration number
  4. Date of birth
  5. The year you graduated from your nursing program
  6. The name of the school from which you graduated
  7. Mailing address and telephone number

I need my certificate number to create a Members' Area account. Where do I find this number?

This number is located on your APC. If you do not have your APC, contact Customer Service at 416 928-0900 or toll-free in Ontario at 1 800 387-5526 to obtain the certificate number.

Applying for Registration

I’m interested in practising nursing in Ontario. How do I apply for registration?

The first step in the registration process is an assessment of your education and any past nursing experience you may have. The College will send you an Assessment Package that will help you start this process. For more information on assessment fees, click here.

To receive an Assessment Package, mail the following information to the College, or send this information by e-mail by clicking here:

  1. First name
  2. Last name
  3. Maiden or former name(s)
  4. Date of birth
  5. Gender
  6. Postal mailing address (including zip code or postal code and country if applicable)
  7. Telephone number
  8. E-mail address
  9. The year you graduated from your nursing program
  10. The country or province where you completed your nursing program
  11. Type of education received (i.e., degree or diploma)
  12. Type of registration you are applying for: Registered Nurse (RN) or Registered Practical Nurse (RPN)

The Assessment Package includes:

  1. Forms for paying fees, and providing school information and employment information.
  2. A form to be sent to your employer(s) to verify your work status.
  3. A form to be sent to the nursing school where you took your original program to verify your education.
  4. A form to be sent to the nursing board(s) where you have been and/or are currently registered to verify your registration.

Exams

What are the exam dates and fees?

How long does it take to receive exam results?

Results are mailed approximately six weeks after the exam date. Exam results are not available over the phone, in person or by e-mail. You must wait to receive your results by mail.

All fees are in Canadian dollars and include applicable taxes (i.e., 5 %GST).

Assessment for an Internationally Educated Nurse: $171.73
Assessment for a Canadian graduate: $49.07
Temporary Class registration: $220.80
General Class registration: $171.73
General Class registration (for applicants who are already registered in the Temporary Class within the same year): $49.07
Endorsement (verification of College registration): $15.75
Transcript request: $21.00

Annual membership renewal: $122.66

Fees are payable to the College of Nurses of Ontario by Visa, MasterCard, American Express, personal cheque or money order. (Note: The College accepts cash payments made in person, but does not accept cash through the mail. The College will not be responsible for lost cash.)

Language fluency

What are the language fluency requirements for nurses in Ontario and how can I meet them?

Name change

How do I change my name on my Annual Payment Card (APC) and on the College’s Register?

If you have legally changed your name and want to update your APC, send your original APC along with a photocopy of the appropriate document (i.e., marriage certificate, divorce decree, legal name change document from the government, etc.) and the required fee to:

Please allow 10 business days for processing name changes.

Note that your name must be updated with the College before you can use it professionally.

My name is spelled incorrectly on my Annual Payment Card (APC). How do I correct this?

If your name appears incorrectly on your APC, send the APC containing the error to the above address with a letter explaining how your name should appear. The College will update your file and send you a new card free of charge.

Online Renewal

Can I renew my membership online?

Yes, you can renew your membership through the Members' Area during renewal season. Online renewal is open from late October until the suspension date in early April. Click here to go to the Members' Area.

Reinstatement

How can I get my registration reinstated with the College?

Former members of the College can complete the reinstatement application forms and pay the reinstatement fee (click here for fees). The reinstatement process takes 10 business days once the College has received all required forms and documents, and you have met the current practice requirement. (Note: former members of the College whose registrations were revoked as the result of a disciplinary hearing are not eligible for reinstatement.)

To receive a reinstatement package, e-mail the following information to the College:

  1. First name
  2. Last name
  3. Ontario Registration number (if available)
  4. Date of birth
  5. The year you graduated from your nursing program
  6. The name of the school from which you graduated
  7. Mailing address and telephone number

Temporary registration

How do I apply for temporary registration?

To apply for temporary registration, read the Temporary Registration Guide and download an application form.

Am I eligible for temporary registration?

To find out if you are eligible for temporary registration, consult the Temporary Registration Guide.

How long does it take to process a temporary registration?

Once all required documents are received, it takes up to 15 business days to process a temporary registration.

Verification of registration

How do I request a verification of my registration (an “endorsement”) if I want to work in another province or country?

Mail or fax (do not e-mail) the College a written request with the following information:

  1. First name
  2. Last name
  3. Ontario Registration number
  4. Date of birth
  5. The year you graduated from your nursing program
  6. The name of the school from which you graduated.
  7. Date that you wrote the Canadian nursing examination
  8. Mailing address and telephone number
  9. Your signature authorizing the release of your registration history and examination scores.
  10. The name and address of the jurisdiction to which the information should be mailed.
  11. Preferred method for delivering the endorsement to the jurisdiction, such as regular mail, fax or courier.

Processing time is 10 business days from the day the College receives your request.

Can I have the endorsement faxed or couriered?

Yes, the College can send the endorsement by fax or courier. Confirm with the jurisdiction to which you are applying what means of delivery are acceptable. The charge for faxing is $5.25. Couriers to the US are $25 and couriers to other Canadian provinces are $15. If you choose one of these delivery options, add this charge to the endorsement fee payment.

How do I request a letter of verification to show my employer that I am eligible to work in Ontario?

Contact Customer Service by phone at 416 928-0900 or toll-free in Ontario at 1 800 387-5526, by fax at 416 928-6507, or e-mail the College.

If you mail, fax or e-mail your request, provide the following information in your request:

  1. First name
  2. Last name
  3. Ontario Registration number
  4. Date of birth
  5. The year you graduated from your nursing program
  6. The name of the school from which you graduated
  7. Mailing address and telephone number
  8. The address where you would like the letter sent

How can I obtain College publications?

Most College documents are listed in the publications section and can be downloaded for free. Adobe Acrobat Reader is required to view College documents online. This program can be downloaded for free from www.adobe.com.
