Your application and examination fee must be received by the College of Nurses before or on the deadline specified, regardless of the postmark. We recommend that you allow at least five days for your mailed payment to reach us by the due date.

You cannot apply for another examination before receiving your results from a previous examination. Due to time constraints, unsuccessful candidates writing at one session may not be able to rewrite at the next session.

Special Accommodation

Requests for Special Accommodations must be submitted in writing together with your application by the Deadline to Apply date of the examination. Your written request should indicate the nature of the accommodations you require. The College recommends that you provide supporting documentation which includes a diagnosis in the case of a mental health or physical condition and a psycho-educational assessment in the case of a learning disability. The supporting documentation must also be received by the Deadline to Apply date of the examination. Requests and supporting documentation received by the College after the Deadline to Apply date of the examination may be denied due to third party deadlines.

Identification Cards / Photo Identification

You will receive an identification card that will admit you to the examination room. If you have not received this card two weeks before the date of the examination you selected, please notify the Customer Service Call Centre at the College of Nurses of Ontario. Candidates with a mailing address outside of North America will not be mailed their identification card. The card will be made available for pick up at the writing centre unless otherwise specified.

You must bring your identification card and another piece of identification that includes both your picture and signature for admission to the examination. Acceptable forms of identification are: valid passport, driver's license, age of majority card, Canadian Permanent Residence card, Canadian citizenship card, Ontario Health card (with photo), or student identification card. If you do not have such documents, a recent photograph bearing your notarized signature will be accepted.

Results

Examination results will be mailed under the name and to the permanent address you most recently provided to the College of Nurses of Ontario. Results are not released over the telephone. Examination results will be mailed within 6 weeks following the examination.

Service For Unsuccessful Candidates

A service has been developed for candidates who are unsuccessful writing the national exam. It allows for hand-scoring of the candidate’s answer sheet by the testing agency. Requests for hand-scoring must be made through the College of Nurses of Ontario. The deadline date to apply for hand-scoring of the May 19, 2010 Canadian Practical Nurse Registration Examination is Friday August 6, 2010. There is a fee for this service. Please contact the Customer Service Call Centre at 416-928-0900 or toll free in Ontario at 1-800-387-5526 for more information about this service.

Name / Address Changes

Notify the College of Nurses of Ontario of any change of address as soon as possible to make sure you receive your ID card and examination result. Address changes may be made in writing or by phone. All requests for a change of name must be submitted in writing and be accompanied by a copy of the legal document, such as a marriage certificate.

Refunds

Full refund will be issued only when written notice is received before or on the Deadline to Withdraw/Reschedule without Penalty date prior to the examination date. A 50% refund will be issued if written notice is received before or on the seventh day prior to the examination date and after the Deadline to Withdraw/Reschedule without Penalty date. Transfer requests from one exam to another received after the Deadline to Withdraw/Reschedule without Penalty date will be processed as a refund unless the remaining outstanding fees are paid at the time the transfer request is made. A refund cheque will be mailed to you within 6 weeks of receiving your request to withdraw from an examination.
