Nurse Registration Examinations

Successful completion of the examination is one of the requirements for eligibility for registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario. The exam measures the competencies required of nurses beginning to practise.

The Canadian Registered Nurse Examination (CRNE) includes approximately 220 multiple choice questions, while the Canadian Practical Nurse Registration Examination (CPNRE) has 230 to 250 multiple choice questions.

The CRNE is presented in one book, which is administered over the course of four hours. The CPNRE is administered over the course of a day. Both exams are available in English and French.

To be eligible to write the exam, you must first apply for assessment. To do so, please contact the College.
