FeaturesNew practice standards advance the professionThe 2008 medication practice standard is a reminder to every nurse of the steps that must be taken to ensure their clients are safe under their care, says Stacey Karp, an NP at Fairmount Home, a long-term care facility in Frontenac County, outside of Kingston. Karp is a member of a group of nurses at Fairmount who contributed to the development of Medication, Revised 2008 by reviewing an early draft of the standard. The revised document includes broad standard statements and indicators to ensure consistency and applicability across practice environments and roles. "The revisions will serve to promote the correct administration of medications by all nurses regardless of the setting, the role of the nurse or the type of medication," says Sharon McNickle, RN, a College Practice Consultant who worked on the standard." The most important aspect of this revised document is client safety and the safe administration of medication." In this issuePresident’s MessageOur Readers WriteMaking the Rounds
