Professional Practice Consultation Program

The Professional Practice Consultation Program will be ending on December 31, 2009. See the Fall 2009 issue of The Standard for more information.

 

Registration

Automated Annual Verification of Member Renewal (AAVR)

The AAVR is an automated service to assist employers in quickly checking the renewal/registration status of the nurses they employ.

Members suspended for non-payment of fees

As of March 11, 2010, members who have not paid their annual fees for 2010 have been suspended and cannot practise nursing in Ontario, use the titles "nurse", "RN”, "RPN”, or “NP” or perform any controlled acts authorized to nursing.

Temporary Registration Guide and Forms

Temporary Class registration is a short-term measure that allows Ontario nursing school graduates to practise nursing while they wait to write the exam.

Public Register Updates

The following are general notices posted to assist the College in meeting its public protection mandate.

The registration of Angie Joan Gauthier has been revoked by the College of Nurses of Ontario since July 3, 2003.  Angie Joan Gauthier is, therefore, not currently entitled to practise nursing.

Heather Cox (#HE03047), who also uses the name Heather Garvin, was found to be incapacitated by the Fitness to Practise Committee on June 1, 2001 and voluntarily surrendered her Certificate of Registration. Heather Cox is not currently entitled to practise nursing.

The certificate of registration of M.Colleen McClinton was revoked on May 4, 2006 following a finding of professional misconduct by the Discipline Committee. As a result, M.Colleen McClinton is not entitled to engage in the practice of nursing or to hold herself out as a nurse. Click here to read the decision and reasons for this finding.

Nancy Johnson # 9708272, was found to be incapacitated by the Fitness to Practise Committee on September 23, 2008 and voluntarily surrendered her Certificate. Nancy Johnson is therefore not currently entitled to practise nursing.

The certificate of registration of Paula Patricia Pontin, RN, # 9914862 was suspended on May 20, 2008 for failure to comply with an order of the Board of Inquiry of the College and this suspension is currently in effect. As a result, Paula Patricia Pontin is not entitled to engage in the practice of nursing or to hold herself out as a nurse.

Note: It is against the law for an individual whose College registration has been suspended or revoked to seek employment as a nurse.

Making a Report

The Regulated Health Professions Act includes a mandatory reporting obligation for employers who terminate, or intend to terminate, the employment of College members. Click here for mandatory reporting scenarios.

Illegal Practitioners

These individuals are not members of the College of Nurses of Ontario and are not entitled to practise nursing in Ontario or hold themselves out as a person who is qualified to practise in Ontario as a “nurse,” “Registered Nurse,” “Registered Practical Nurse,” or in a speciality of nursing.
