Delegating to a personal support worker
As a part of my nursing role, I assign care to unregulated care providers (UCPs). If I want to assign the administration of a topical medication, do I also have to delegate this?
No. Delegation applies to controlled acts only. Administering a substance topically is not a controlled act, so delegation is not applicable in this situation.
You can read more about expectations for nurses who work with UCPs in the Working With Unregulated Care Providers practice guideline.
