CNO closed - FAQs for applicants

CNO is currently closed due to significant technical issues. It is being investigated and updates will be provided on the website as available. Please continue to monitor the website for updates on the status of our closure.

Applications 

Can I apply for registration to the CNO?

No, not at this time. We are unable to receive and process any applications or documents. 

Once CNO re-opens, you will be able to create your online account and submit your application and fees.

I am waiting for an update on my application. Will I receive it soon?

We are currently unable to provide any updates on your application and send any outgoing correspondence. Once CNO re-opens, and we have an opportunity to review your documents, you will be advised in writing about your required next steps for your application.

Can I access the Applicant Portal to check on the status of my application?

The Applicant Portal is not available at this time. Once CNO re-opens, you will be able to log in and check the status of your application.

I sent in some documents for my application. Have you received them?

We are unable to confirm receipt of your documents at this time. Once CNO re-opens, you will be able to contact our Customer Service Centre about the status of your documents.

I am concerned about timelines, and my application. Is this closure going to impact my application?

We acknowledge your concerns with the expiry of your requirements and will consider any impact that this unforeseen closure has on your application. If you have a specific concern, please send it to the CNO in writing at cno@cnomail.org

Will the Registration Committee be reviewing applications on September 24?

No. The Registration Committee meeting scheduled for September 24, 2020 will be rescheduled to a new date. When CNO re-opens, you will be notified in writing through the Applicant Portal of the new date.

I have not received my NNAS results/Advisory report. When will I receive it?

You should contact NNAS at 1 855 977-1898. They can provide you with information about your Advisory report

I have my NNAS result/Advisory report. Can I apply to the CNO?

No, not at this time. We are temporarily unable to receive and process any applications or documents. Once CNO re-opens, you will be able to create your online account and submit your application and fees. 

My application was previously reviewed by the Registration Committee and I haven’t received my decision yet. Will I receive it soon?

Not at this time. When the Applicant Portal is available, CNO will send you the Registration Committee’s decision. 


Exams

Can I register for the CPNRE?

The next CPNRE exam will take place November 9 to November 29, 2020. The deadline to apply to this exam window is November 17, 2020.

If you applied for the September exam window but did not receive notification from CNO that we sent your information to the exam provider, you will need to wait to register for the November window. Once CNO re-opens, we will be able to send your information to the exam provider in October and you will then be able to schedule your exam for the November exam window

Can I register for the NCLEX?

We are unable to send your information to the exam providers at this time. If you are not already scheduled to write the exam, please continue to monitor the website for updates. 

Once CNO re-opens, we will send your information to the exam provider and you will be able to schedule your exam.

I haven't heard back on my exam accommodation request. When can I expect to hear back?

We are currently unable to review your request for accommodation. We will review the request when CNO re-opens. 

I wrote the NCLEX and am awaiting my results. How can I access them? Can you tell me how I did?

Once your NCLEX-RN result is available, it will be emailed to you. If you have not received the email, please check your spam folder. 

Your exam result will not be available by phone, please do not call CNO to get your result.

I passed my Jurisprudence exam. Did you get the results?

CNO is currently temporarily unable to update your application with your result. Once CNO re-opens, we will update your application with your result and you will be able to log in and check the status of your Jurisprudence requirement. 

Can I write the Jurisprudence exam now?

The Jurisprudence exam is still available from the examination provider. Please check our Jurisprudence FAQs


Police record checks 

Can I still complete my police criminal record check?

Yes, you can complete your criminal record check. Submitting police criminal records checks to CNO is an online process. Please use the following link: https://pages.sterlingbackcheck.ca/landing-pages/c/cno/ 

Did you get my results from myBackCheck? 

CNO is currently unable to update your application with your BackCheck results. Once CNO re-opens we will update your application with your results and you will be able to log in and check the status of your criminal record check. 


Reinstatement 

Can I apply and pay for reinstatement?

No, not at this time. While CNO works to resume normal operations, a number of services are temporarily unavailable, including the public register Find a Nurse, the nurse renewal portal Maintain Your Membership, and the portal for applicants. 

Did you get my reinstatement application forms?
